Current NYC gun license fees
The government fees, straight from our records — each with who sets it, who it's paid to, and when we last checked.
A NYC gun license carries two government fees: the $340 NYPD License Division application fee and the $88.25 NYS fingerprint fee. Both are paid directly to the government — never to us — and both are non-refundable regardless of the outcome. Training and notarization are billed separately by those providers.
| Fee | Amount | Paid to | Set by |
|---|---|---|---|
NYPD License Division application fee Applies to NEW applications and RENEWALS alike. Non-refundable regardless of outcome. Cash and personal checks not accepted. | $340 | NYPD License Division | P.L. §400.00(14); NYPD portal |
NYS DCJS fingerprint fee Paid separately from the application fee. Portal lists $88.25 (nyc.gov shows $89.75 — portal is likelier current; verify). Non-refundable. | $88.25 | NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services | NYS DCJS fee schedule; NYPD portal |
Retired law enforcement: Application fee waived for retired law-enforcement applicants; the DCJS fingerprint fee is still owed. See retired law enforcement.
Fees last verified Jul 13, 2026. Amounts are read live from our records; government agencies can change them at any time, so confirm the current figure with the agency before you pay.
